About Burnaby B.C.

The City of Burnaby has a convenient transit system serviced by Skytrain and bus. This is a  commuter-friendly city that also boasts picturesque scenery, local attractions, and excellent restaurants.

Simon Fraser University, Deer Lake, Burnaby Lake, Burnaby Mountain Golf Course, The Shadbolt Centre for the Arts, and the Burnaby Village Museum are just a few of the numerous landmarks found in Burnaby.

Its convenient access to the Airport and closeness to Vancouver and other municipalities make Burnaby an attractive place to live.

Simon Fraser Hills

Simon Fraser Hills is one of the largest areas geography-wise, featuring parks with beautiful views and plenty of hiking trails. It is also home to the Burnaby Mountain Conservation area and Simon Fraser University (SFU) which is a self-contained community.

This neighbourhood is home to University Highlands Elementary School. It also features Nesters Food Market, a BC liquor store, and plenty of other options for grocery shopping and dining.

Metrotown

Metrotown is a Metro Vancouver regional town center and Burnaby’s officially designated town center. The neighbourhood is known for towering apartment and office buildings, shopping malls, and Silvercity which houses 17 movie theaters.

Metrotown is one of the best locations for high-rise condo living, with some buildings offering remarkable views in all directions. Many of these newer high-rises have been built near to the Skytrain which gets you to downtown Vancouver in twenty minutes.

Government Road

The Government Road area is a peaceful residential neighbourhood located between Burnaby Mountain and Burnaby Lake. It houses larger properties and bigger detached homes, though a small number of townhomes and duplexes are available.

Most of the homes here are owner-occupied so rental properties may be hard to find. Some of Burnaby’s most luxurious homes are found in this Government Road neighbourhood, including that of Burnaby’s own Michael Bublé.

Residents enjoy hiking on Burnaby Lake’s wooded trails. For shopping and other services, residents make a quick trip to Lougheed Town Centre. Schools here include Burnaby Mountain Secondary and Seaforth Elementary, known for its French Immersion Program.

Burnaby Heights (“The Heights”)

The Heights offers its residents the best views of Vancouver, Mount Baker, and the North Shore. Early immigrants who settled here saw to it that this lovely area remained a secret from outsiders.

Hastings Street is central to this neighbourhood, and remains a longstanding shopping mecca for locals and tourists alike. It features hundreds of unique shops, services, Italian delicatessens, Chinese eateries, and butcher shops.

Willingdon Heights

Just south of The Heights is Willingdon Heights. This neighbourhood is home to Chinese, Italian, and South Korean immigrant families which make up nearly half of the population.

Willingdon Heights offers a good choice of single-family homes and newly built condominiums, with convenient access to Vancouver and any location in Burnaby. Fast transportation is accessible at Brentwood and Gilmore Skytrain stations. Kitchener Elementary and Alpha Secondary School are schools within the neighbourhood.
